Ian C.Dawkins Moore, has brought together an eclectic collection of two
screenplays and seven short stories, for his fifth published book. Each
story, although very individual, has it's own curious twist at the end,
prompting the reader to reflect on the magic and conflicts that exist
in today's world.
- A man and a woman from different worlds find love in "Timbuktu"
and a curious trade-off for their emotions.
- "Love & Marriage" is
a screenplay which tells the story of two couples from a California valley
town, who get drunk in Reno and marry the wrong partners with hilarious
consequences.
- The title story, "Fake it 'til you Make it", follows
the exploits of a feisty African American career criminal, who's always
trying to be one step ahead of the white man;
- "Zen, and the Art of
Construction" is an outrageously funny descent into the
adversarial world of inspectors and construction superintendents.
- "The Wretched
of the Earth" is a screenplay which strikes a harrowing chord about
the devastating effects of torture on the victims of brutality, as well
as the effects on the torturers who inflict the pain.
- "Jamaica Farewell"
is an introduction to a historical epic tracing the disaspora
of a Jamaican family throughout Europe, Canada, the USA, Panama and
the Carribean, from the 1880's to the present time.
- "Dead Secrets" is the terse
story of betrayal, decit, murder and a prisoner's last wish.
- "Irene's
Song" tells the tale of an African woman who journeys
to America in search of her husband, who has disappeared into the heart
of whiteness.
- The last piece is a narrative poem titled "The Happy
Cuckold".
